do you ever wonder...

how certain patterns even get made? i do. i have been wanting to do this quilt for about 6 months and when i read the pattern i felt like they made it more difficult than it needed to be!! so i just found the measurements and went from there. i REALLY LOVE this quilt!!! it is the wee play line. i will be making this quilt AGAIN!!!
here is a pile of scraps from my wee play quilt and was wondering if anyone wanted to do a giveaway? if you would like this little pile of scraps please leave a comment and let me know. i will pick a winner friday morning before i go out of town.
this is my last old wip!!!!!!! hip hip hooray!!!!!! now i only have new starts!!!! one i can't wait to show when i get a few more done!! i have to finish this one before july is done. that was my goal and i want to keep it!

  1. I know what you mean about figuring out patterns sometimes. Sometimes it is just easier to figure it out on your own. I love the Wee Play line and have some, so the scraps would be a wonderful addition to my existing pile and possibly make something to go along with it. Thanks! Terrific on the WIP! Job well done!

  2. Oh these are great scraps...I'm going for a second time 'round 9 Patch with crazy mom quilts and could use some new fabric injected into my stash.
Your wee play quilt is stunning...where did you see this pattern? Yowza!!

  3. I'm very new to your blog - but am loving it already. I love quilting and your fresh colors and ideas give me hope that I can someday think outside the box (and not follow the pattern 100%).

I would love to be in the mix for your scraps!

  4. Very nice Wee Play quilt! I agree completely - sometimes patterns are written in such a way that you end up wasting a lot of fabric, or piecing it in a tedious way. There are a million ways to make a quilt, and some ways are just better for me than others!

    LOVE the stacked coins.

  14. Love the fabrics, but haven't tried them yet! I have a vintage quilt that I would like to reproduce so I can use. These would be perfect as I need small bits of bright interesting fabrics. The original was 30's feed sacks with lots of That Green, read---THE ENTIRE BACK!!!!

  16. Love your Wee play quilt and would love to add your scraps to my collection :0) .You're right about patterns. When I first started quilting, I followed patterns to a "t". Now I'll glance at it and can usually figure it out on my own.

  17. I don't have a clue how someone comes up with a pattern, makes it, writes it down, does the measurements. NO CLUE! I mean I realize it takes math and creativity and a Quilter's FabriCalc maybe but that would not be for me!
Your quilt is LOVELY! Won't it be fun to be doing only new starts soon too. :D

  21. How I love scraps! Please enter me. I am in the middle of a couple of quilts that use scraps and can always use more.

  22. I'd like to be entered for the scraps. I'm trying the quilt a long of 9-patches too ... but usually I don't have scraps left.

(I'm another one who loves to draw quilts on graph paper and figure out measurements)

Generally the size of my borders depends on how much fabric I have left, rounded to the nearest 1/4", so it is rare for me to have anything left but "squaring up" trimmings

  52. Heather, I love your blog. I started quilting about 3 months ago, and was in a beginner's rut until I found your blog about a week ago. Your photos and your comments demonstrate that there are so many patterns that are not as complicated as the final product looks - thanks so much for the inspiration!! Your fabric selections are spot-on every time too - I love the Wee Play! I'm an elementary teacher who loves vintage fabrics - how perfect is this collection? I would love to be in the pool for the scraps. Thanks again for sharing your ideas, talent, and enthusiasm! I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with next!!

  54. most of the time that I get a really complex pattern, I just have to wonder what people are thinking? I mean, surely there is an easier way.
I would love to win those scraps. I love wee play. Heck, I love most moda...

  55. I too find that sometimes patterns are made more difficult to make than the photos. Good for you to note it!

  56. I would love to have this quilt pattern! It looks fairly easy (ie. only 1 type of block?). I would also love to have your scraps. I recently began making quilts for kids who are in the hospital through www.quiltsforkids.org. Those scraps would be perfect for a scrappy kids quilt!

  57. I really like your work - just spent my lunch hour looking at your flickr pics. I love the irregular triangles on your flying geese baby quilt. Do you have suggestions for building up a scrap stash quickly and cheaply? I am just getting started and the scrap look appeals to me the most, but I feel like I'm breaking the bank buying fat quarters in multiple prints just to get going. Keep up the inspiring work for us newbies.

  58. Love your quilts! Please enter me for your scraps. One can never have too many scraps can they?
