here's to a quilting saturday

Here are two of the projects I worked on this last Saturday. Amanda and I decided a bit at the last minute to have a quilting day on Saturday. Neither one of us was feeling 100% but when it comes to quilting we just couldn't give up the day. It was very nice. I got a baby quilt top finished. I also finished my curtains. I had one window done but what you didn't know is that I had another window to finish. I heard that's called a blog finish.:)
Then I started a stacked coins with the scraps from my candy bar road to put at the end of my bed!!! I love how once you cut these to the width you want you don't have to worry about much else. Wonky sizes are good! It goes together quite easily. Now that I'm feeling much better I should be able to kick it out this week. (if I have the time):)
I also want to thank everyone for such nice comment on my king size and the curtains. You guys are so encouraging and I really appreciate it!! Hope you guys have a FANTASTIC day and week!!

curtains to match

I had to make curtains to match my new quilt and this is what I came up with.
I just used scraps of what I had left over from my quilt and sewed a strip together. Then I had 1/2 yard left of one fabric and cut 1" strips for a binding affect. I used this look last time I made curtains. But I figure I liked them so why not just change a few things around. If it's not broke don't fix it right?:)

Here is a closer look because it's fairly gloomy out so it makes for bad picture taking. Have a great weekend! And thanks for stopping by.

Finished King Size!!:)

This is it! I finally finished my new king size. I think the shams have been done for almost two months.:) Oh well. It's rich and dark and not very sping like but I am going to use it now because I LOVE it!! It's very nice to love what you just made isn't it?:)
Here is a closer view and a better picture of the shams. The shams are the same until the the bigger piece of fabric. His and her sides so to speak. I can't wait to crawl under this tonight!! I'm going to be working on a quilt at the end of the bed now. Along with the 10 other ones I have going!:) It's so much fun!! Have a great day!!

bento box

My bento box is done!!! Hip Hip Hooray!! I LOVE it. THERE ARE A LOT OF SEAMS THOUGH!!!! But what is encouraging is that I'm improving on my seams. They are matching up! I still haven't finished the very first quilt I've ever made yet because it looks horrible and seams are one of the reasons. I've been challenged by a friend to finish it before the month is up. We'll see.:)

It's fun to have a splash of orange. This is going to go at the end of my new queen size guest bedroom quilt. Which is now called Cool Breeze. I'm going to sew up the back today and pin it so I can start quilting it!!!!!

Lastly, here is my little Ruby asleep on my grocery bags. She is such a little honey. With all the fresh air she has been getting lately (due to the nicer weather) she has been pooped more! :) We are very thankful for that!!:) Hope you have a great day!!

spring fun!!!!

With our weather being soooo nice here today I had to get my hands on the fabric that Cathy gave me!! It is sort of like a rectangle bento box. I like it. I'm loving the colors and so ready to wear colors like it.
I'm also working on my bento box that will go at the end of my guest bed. That quilt has now been named Cool Breeze. Thanks to Sarah! That was the quilt I posted the other day.

And this is the bom that I'm working on. I still don't have all of month 2 blocks done but I'm having fun with paper piecing!:) Hope the weather by you is nice and that you are having a great day. It's my boys spring break so I might not get a lot of sewing in. That's okay because they are at ages that are fun to hang out with! Have a great day!!:)

a swap!

Remember this quilt? It's my swell quilt. I got it pinned and just couldn't seem to start the quilting process. Boy am I ever glad!! I had Cathy ask me if I would mind if she copied this exact pattern and if I would give her the measurements. I emailed them to her and thought that was very sweet of her. Then I started thinking maybe she would want to do a swap. And she did!!! I unpinned the quilt in probably record time!:)
I just got all this fabulous fabric in the mail from her!!!!!! I am SOOOOOOO excited!! I am ready for spring. These colors and fabrics make me smile!!:) I'm so glad that she thinks she got the better deal. But I think that I really got the better deal.:) Thank you so much Cathy!!

The crazy thing is I have another quilt top I don't know what to do with. You know me I go big. This was going to go on my guest bed that is a queen size but this is draped over my king bed and it fits. I am in the final stippling stages of my new king size(i ran out of thread) :( So I don't want another king size. If you would be interested in a swap let me know.
This is just a little closer up picture. As always I hope you have a GREAT day!!

cushions

I made these cushions for my benches and chairs before I started blogging but I had to wash them today and thought I would share them. After washing them they are thicker. I don't quite get it but I really like it. I love the peek of my polka dot dresser.
I made my bench covers opposite of the chair covers. They are reversable if I want but I like it with the red being on the benches and more of it showing. Then I used the opposite fabric as the binding. I really like how they turned out.
I didn't use a pattern I just made it up and it thankfully worked. I put two pieces of batting under the top fabric and quilted it and then put two pieces of batting with the bottom fabric and then quilted. Then I sewed them together and put the binding on. The chairs and benches are very hard therefore I wanted some padding. I got it!:)
I love it when things work out!! Have a great day!!

i heart pink and green

I learned to paper piece yesterday and then decided to do this quilt block of the month by twiddletails and I am LOVING it!!! When I was shown this yesterday I watched it happen and though NO WAY to much work. Then I tried it and oh I am having so much fun!!!:) Plus I love the results. It's a little putzy but I haven't been downstairs a lot this week so it was fun to just relax and do this. Hope you're having a GREAT weekend!

Mountain Baby Blankets

I thought I should make a baby boy quilt too. I think I'm calling this one lillypads. My boys kept saying it looked like water because of all the blue but to me the green stood out. This was a fun and quick quilt to do. This also was made out of scraps. I even pieced the batting!:) Not my favorite thing to do, but not bad.:)
The back is all green and then I used a yellow checked for the binding. I see why it's so hard for me to make smaller quilts. I loved the blue and green together and thought about making it bigger but challenged myself to stick to the pattern. I did it!! I was very happy about that.

But I can see a bigger version of this in my future. Although, I have a blue and green flea market fancy quilt in the works. Hope you have a fantastic day!!

Sherbert

Sherbert! That's the name of this quilt. I'm not good at ALL at naming a quilt, but Sarah (I know her in real life) commented on this quilt and said it looked like sherbert. It connected with me and so there you have it!! Thank you Sarah.
So I started thinking...If you want to throw names out there when I post a quilt - I will pick a name that connects with me and reward you. It will be a little something like a tote, bag, coasters, card fronts etc... If I'm lazy it will just be a fat quarter or two.:)I hope you have a great day!! I really like how yummy this quilt sounds. I'm going to make Sarah a quilted box for her dog Bogey. She doesn't even know this. Until she reads this of course.:)
